Internal leaks are v. costly to repair
PostedJanuary 25, 2013
We've had our Prodigy for 9 years. We use it 3 times per week 9 months /year. Until Jan 2013, no major maintenance issues ( except replacing the circuit board after 8 years ). However this yr it developed an "internal" leak. The tub must be taken to an authorized dealer for repair. Cost estimate will exceed the value of the tub AND there is of course no guarantee that a future leak may develop elsewhere. We were given an repair estimate of between $3,500 -$4,500 We are in the process of evaluating other manufacturers whose Hot Tub Spas, should they develop an internal leak, can be repaired on site at far less cost. We have been told the avg life of these spas in Vermont is about 10 years. We have been given an estimate for a new Prodigy, delivered, of $9,000. The cost of owning the Spa becomes about $1000 per year, not counting utility costs and maintenance. Watkins Mfg has said the 2013 model is much improved from the one we purchased 9 years ago. If so, why is their guarantee limited to the original 5 years. When asked, they did not provide a satisfactory answer.

Good morning! I have read your comments with much interest and would like to know more, but there is no email address listed for you. Most repairs can be done where the spa sits. If your spa is outdoors and the ambient weather is not conducive to an on-site repair, the optioins are to move it to an enclosed warehouse where there is temp control or wait to do the repair on-site until better weather arrives. I will be glad to address all of the issues you have if you would will email me at Watkins. My email address is [email protected]. Since you've had a great 9 year run with the spa, let's see what can be done to get it repaired and back into great worknig order for you in a short time! Best regards, Peggy W.
I like the spa and have had it now for two months. My concern is with the confusing instructions on using chemicals for sanitation. I use the spa daily.
The manual list instruction that are contrary to the instruction labeled on the filter lid. My dealer who has been excellent provided a different set of instructions.
We are first time spa owners - We have quickly found the Hot Springs spas are probably the best on the market for the money - We probably spent more than we intended but we are very satisfied so for.

I have been the owner of three spas over the years. My Hot Springs Prodigy is by far the best I have ever owned. The ease of care and maintenance is excellent but most importantly the comfort and message is out of this world!
Great Service and support from our dealer. Like this unit purcased the fall of 2007 better then the one purchased 1995 no moving parts. Only problem is with the cover , some how it leaked and filled with water. Was a mess to remove and dis-assembly. Found the threading material used to sew the cover falled along with the cover material cracking. Was able to rebuilt and hand stiched with a waxed base cord.

Prodigy nothing but problems
PostedDecember 16, 2012
We purchased our Prodigy April 2011 and have had so many problems with it that it is no longer fun to use. Previously we had the Classic and never had a problem for twenty years. We have the Ace salt system which comes with a submersible module that produces chlorine from the salt in the water. For the first nine months or so we had great difficultly getting the tub to detect enough salt to produce chlorine. The dealer/manufacturer replaced the salt cell four times before discovering that there was a defect in the design of the intake pipe that the salt cell is placed in. A new pipe was supplied and this solved the salt detection problem. It was a very frustrating nine months dealing with the dealer because they immediately believed that I did not know how to treat the water despite the fact that I owned a spa for twenty years. Now that the spa is producing chlorine I find that it is producing too much chlorine and is difficult to control. I now have the spa settings at the minimum use level and spa size and the tub is still producing too much chlorine. Another problem is that the sealant used to seal the jets is bleeding out from around the jets and makes a mess on the surface and has fouled the filters as well. We are very frustrated owners and regret our decision to purchase this product.

Worst Hot Tub Ever
PostedNovember 19, 2012
In three years, our Prodigy hot tub has had two leaks. One they could fix on site and the other they had to remove it from our back yard which meant dismantling our fence.
Two leaks in three years is ridiculous. We do not recommend Hot Spring Spas nor will we ever purchase one again.

Relaxing in Style
PostedOctober 24, 2012
Before purchasing a hot tub we asked many people to tell us the best hot tub there was. There are many companies to choose from, but invariable we were told Hot Springs was the best. We chose the Prodigy because of size and efficiency. It has turned out to be a perfect fit for us. It has given us several years of wonderful relaxation and has helped with back pain and muscle soreness besides. We love our Prodigy by Hot Springs.
We purchased our Prodigy hot tub this past summer. After researching many spa brands we chose the Hot Spring as a truly well made American product . The Prodigy has been a fantastic investment for our health and relaxation. I am delighted with how easy it is to maintain water quality with the Ozone system and Silk Balance. Every time we open the cover we have crystal clear water. The Prodigy heats up extremely fast and is very energy efficient. We highly recommend the Hot Spring brand to others and look forward to many years of enjoyment ..

Would Buy It All Over Again
PostedOctober 9, 2012
We bought the Prodigy seven years ago. Aside from replacing the side lights/jets assembly (covered under warranty) about three years ago, we have had no problems whatsoever. It took me a while to get the hang of water maintenance but it really is quite simple. Our vinyl lid was damaged during a heavy ice storm one winter and now needs to be replaced. We have spent many enjoyable evening in our spa and the Prodigy is just large enough to fit five. Would definately buy this brand again!

My Prodigy
This is the 3rd hottub I have owned in the past 23 years and my second Hot Springs model. Deciding to buy From Olympic Hot Tub Company was a great move, They made it so easy for me, they delivered it and set it up. When I bought this tub I downsized to the Prodigy and it has turned out to be the perfect size for me. It is so easy to maintain the water quality with the ozone system and Silk Balance, Everytime I open the cover I have bright crystal clear water. The variety of jets on this tub makes it so I and relax and have the massaging action anywhere I need it. I highly recommend Hot Springs Hot Tubs and Olympic Hot Tub Company To everyone in the Pacific Northwest.

Nov 2003 Prodigy was/is poor quality or a lemon
PostedAugust 1, 2012
First yrs with this tub - control panel went out (wouldn't cut off), Secondary panel on tub had to be replaced, pump was replaced, heater circuit board replace (with new design that wont' burn out like the original but wasn't covered - warranty was out), I replaced diverter valve after it broke, Leisure Lifestyles, Columbus, GA said when it was still under warranty that the diverter valve not covered. While under warranty the base (plywood?) was dropping down. Leisure Lifestyles had to drain, carry in, repair and 'refoam'? - fortunately Tech had prior approval from Hot Springs cause once picked up they wanted to renig on repair. Mike w/technical support at Leisure is about all I could recommend from Leisure Lifestyles or Hot Springs. Recently replaced ozonator with JED103 which I hear my dealer uses as a cheaper alternative to the HotSprings Ozonator. Dealer wanted $160 for JED103 + $80 to install (if my memory serves me). I purchased unit for $99 online and replaced for $0. I'm waiting on rotary jet (from internet site) now 'cause store don't stock and couldn't order over the weekend but I could on line with another vendor. WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS, I can say I've enjoyed my Prodigy. BUT there is something wrong with quality of this tub. I actually think I got a lemon or one that was abused during production 'cause first few yrs I had nothing but problems. Pump making noise - was told I'd have to pay and if Hot Springs determined that I didn't have build up because of chemicals. So I guess soon I'll have to pay for pump. Now have issues which I'd assume common with aging stuff but I'm getting better at home repairs - - - can't afford your local dealer, prices or labor. All said I would have mixed feelings on whether to recommend to friend or not. Same would be true on next purchase for this household. I would certainly do much searching on internet for reviews of other hot tubs before 'settling' for a Hot Springs Prodigy again - - - THOUGHT I WAS BUYING A CADILLAC and believe it was a dang GM product.
