When we replaced our deck and decided to tier it, we also decided to put in a hot tub. We did not shop around; we were lucky and just went to Year Round Pool and saw the Grande and that was it; love at first sight and empty pockets. 8 years ago and 3 pumps plus later, our spa looks like new except for one panel that took off during a bad storm and we could not locate. Unfortunately, the pumps are costing a fortune. Just today while getting the spa drained, cleaned and chemicals checked since I can no longer do this without my husband who recently passed, my technician informed me that I probably have another pump issue - perhaps the circulation pump, as the entire spa will not operate. Each time he tries to start it, it trips the circuit breaker. I realize that it is 8 years old, but the first pump went at 3 years, the second at 5, the third (a replacement of the first) after another 3 years after it was put in, and now another one looms ahead to be replaced. One would think this spa was used all the time; however, it has not been at all since my husband's illness two years ago except by two grandchildren on occasion. Is pump replacement this common?

Good morning! Thank you for taking the time to share details of your spa experiences over the past 8 years. It is not common to require a component replacement every 3 or so years. Knowing the chemical makeup of your source water and keeping it in balance are what will ensure a long life for your pump. Even if people are not in the spa, the water is circulating through the circ pump 24/7. Water that is far out of chemical balance can damage a pump within a very short time. Balanced water will allow a pump to run efficiently for a minimum of 5 years. If you have a moment, do call our Customer Service line to discuss your source water, the chemicals you are using and what you might do to prolong the life of your spa's components. We'll be glad to assist. 1-800-999-4688, ext 8432

Heater underpowered. Bad after-sales support.
PostedMay 12, 2013
The spa heater is badly underpowered. The spa rapidly cools down to an uncomfortable level in use. There is no after sales support. This was a phenomenal waste of money (a *very* expensive mistake). There are better brands. Don't by a Hotspring Spa.

Good afternoon - Watkins appreciates your taking the time to provide feedback about your spa. As I shared in my direct email to you yesterday, I will be contacting your local dealer to see what might be done to improve your spa experience. I appreciate your spa purchase and will do what I can to improve the situation for you.
House came with an '84 Hot Spring Grandee. Thought that was the greatest thing since sliced bread! Local Hot Spring store very helpful in maintaining this ancient tub! Finally upgraded to an '02 Grandee and as the tech screwed the cover to the pumps and electronics in he said I will never need to go in there! In Montana, especially this year, we've had a long cold spring and we have enjoyed so many days just being in the tub reducing our cabin fever! Even the assist for the cover has brought a smile before we even get in! Thanks for a great product and a great support group! Rich, Missoula, MT

Love the jets that move, to give you a massage for your back. I've never had a tub experence like this one! The two pumps give one of the best power for a invigerating massage to relax the muscle in my back. I've owned a tub before and tried every tub available in my town and had to have this one. Alittle pricey but? I like the rock look skirting and stairs. Saddly though you didn't use stainless steel screws to mount the pillows or name plate control because they rust. This makes the tub look cheep and for 15,000.00 I thinks you could of afforded it. And the skimmer is a corner seat possition is poor design. Corner seats are the best desired seat in a tub you only have 4. In a corner seat you don't have to worry about touching someone unless you want to. One more power seat (corner) would of blown your compition out of the GAME. And I would of wished to buy that tub. I have a very bad back from Sports and a Car Accident to top it all off. but this tub makes me more enjoyable to be around and by removing some of the pain I deal with daily. Thanks Ejnar Laursen

Dear Hot Tubber,
Thank you for providing product feedback. I am glad to hear the hot tub helps with pain management. Our customer service team will gladly help resolve some of your concerns and will be in touch. Thank you for being a Hot Spring customer.
Sitting in the Hottub after the sun goes down is my favorite time of day. We upgraded to the grandee a few months ago and this was the best choice I have made in a long time, going from chemicals to the ACE system is something I think everyone who has a tub should experience, No more smell, no more itchy skin, no more burning eyes, it just makes the price well worth it.

Unpleasant surprise with salt system
PostedMarch 24, 2013
When we purchased our Grandee salt water tub, we were not told of the cost of replacing the ionizer or frequency of replacement. When we asked, we were just told it was a new system. Our first ionizer never worked properly and was replaced under warranty. The second lasted 18 months. We haven't bought another ionizer yet. At this point, we are using the tub as a chlorine-based system. Wow, we were surprised when we called to replace the ionizer. The cost of replacing the ionizer in our Grandee salt water tub is over $800 and the frequency of replacement is 18 months. If you are considering purchasing this hot tub system, make sure you factor in the ionizer cost.

Dear Hot Tubber,
Thank you very much for taking the time to provide feedback. We are happy to hear that you are enjoying your Grandee, but we are very sorry to learn about your situation as it relates to the ACE salt system. We hope that you’ve found that the ACE system does make water care simple and easy, and it is likely that you’ll notice the difference in the quality of water now that you are using standard chlorine.
We hope that your dealer was able to talk with you about the trade-offs of the ACE system vs. bottled water care. The replacement cell does have a cost associated with it. With the ACE system you pay the high cost for the cell in one chunk every few years (ideally), instead of regularly paying for bottles of chlorine, and instead of dosing your spa weekly and each time you use it.
The component that needs to be replaced is the ACE cell. This part is wearable and does need to be replaced periodically. The life of the cell depends on how much chlorine you need. In a big spa like a Grandee, you’ll obviously need more chlorine than in a smaller spa. The frequency you use your hot tub and any other products that you are adding to the water, can also influence how long the cell lasts.
The way the system works is that the Use Level you set tells the cell to run for a certain amount of time every day. The more often the cell runs, the quicker it needs to be replaced.
There are things that you can do to get the maximum life out of your cell. Keep your water balanced and your hardness at the recommended level of 50 ppm. Set the use level to a low setting (2 or 3) for normal everyday use, and then hit the boost function on occasion when you need to increase the chlorine level. You can also throw in some granular chlorine if you’ve had a lot of people in the spa and need a quick boost of chlorine. Also, the salt level should be at 1750 ppm; at this level the system can create a generous amount of chlorine.
We understand that you may decide to stick with bottled chlorine at this point, but hope that this information may help if you decide to continue on with the ACE system. We appreciate your business. We continue to educate our dealers on products to make sure they have the information they need to provide you with the absolute best hot tub ownership experience. If you have questions beyond what your dealer can answer, please reach out to Hot Spring Spas’ Customer Service Team at 800-999-4688 X 8432.

I've had the luxury of trying a few different Hotspring models, and the Grandee is hands down the best. I like the feeling of a deep spa, it accommodates my 3 and 8 year old boys, while still allowing enough room for my wife and I to have a conversation. The moto-massage in two locations is also a feature I enjoy. I have the ACE system, and wouldn't have any other water care option.

I bought my first Hotsprings Grandee hot tub twenty years ago with little or no trouble. I finally wanted to experience some of the newer features that Hotsprings had to offer so in November of 2012 I purchased a new Hotsprings grandee with alot of the bells and whistles. I just love it and my wife and I have been using it almost everyday since. Would highly recommend it to anyone for enjoyment to soothing those sore spots.

Good purchase

My husband and I don't like the step inside the hottub. It is too high and hard to get in and out of the tub.
We purchased our Grandee Spa before the holidays and have enjoyed it so many times with family and friends. We use it a lot more than our previous spa, because of the convenient Covercradle cover lifter kit. It took two of us to lift the cover on our old spa and I can lift the 8½ foot cover by myself, in a matter of seconds. The Moto-Massage Corners are just what the Doctor ordered for a sore stiff back. I love the ambiance created by the multi-color lighting system and the fountain water feature.
I had our Grandee delivered Christmas Eve. Spent the prior two weeks roughing in the wiring, spa was up and running within 2 hours of setup. Reached a useable temp by 11pm. What amazes me is the quality. When the delivery guys had it on its side on the cart, I noticed that the entire inside of the spa is hard, sprayed in insulation and wrapped with 1/2 “ plywood (very solid). The controls are state of the art, very easy to use. Bigger is better when you have 5 in your family. I ordered the Spa Stone Surround so it does not look like a wooden box on my patio. Tons of compliments. We love it. I can't say enough about the quality. Being an engineer that's paramount in my decision making. Have not had any problems with the ACE system. Water makes your skin so soft. No chlorine smell. When I told friends I was getting a spa, everyone has a big box or internet store price story. You get what you pay for. Yes Hot Spring Spas are expensive, but the quality shows. Finally having a reliable / reputable “bricks n mortar” place to go makes the whole process worthwhile. Way to go Spring Dance Hot Tubs, Exton PA !!! (and no I don’t work for them) Hope this helps anyone on the fence about a spa.

We had a Hot Springs Classic for over 19 years outside in ND winters, used it almost daily and it was running 365 days a year. Sold it with our home and the new owners are loving it too. We have a new Grandee and it is superb! Love all the jets, lights and salt water system. We recommend to all our friends that Hot Springs hot tubs are the only way to go for relaxation that is hassle free! Almost maintenance free!

My Grandee is about seven years old now. It's been used two to three nights a week since it was installed. The water care is effortless for the amount it's used. I also can't speak highly enough about all of the different therapy seats! One of the reasons I wanted a larger spa was for entertaining and it doesn't disappoint. I can easily fit seven to eight people in my tub with drinks. Another bonus is that it's inexpensive to operate even in the cold New England winters. Overall I couldn't be happier with the purchase and will buy the same model again when this one goes.
